Dear Parents and Guardians,
My name is Ms. Johnson and I am ecstatic to be your students Third Grade teacher for the 2016-2017 school year! I can hardly wait for the school year to begin! It is going to be full of lots of fun, excitement, and learning! My classroom community this year is made up of 23 splendid students! I am SO excited to meet you and your student, and I feel so grateful I have the next nine months to get to know you and your student even better! I want to begin this year by saying thank you for everything you do to support your child and for making my job such a wonderful one!
I believe that every child possesses the ability to learn and believe that not all students learn the same way. I use a constructivist teaching style in order to differentiate my lessons and tailor how I teach to how each of my students learn. In my classroom, I promote community, acceptance, and understanding. I value positive relationships and use “time banking,” scheduling five minutes a week for student led conversation, in order to create positive student-teacher relations (Booker, 2016). I use natural and logical consequences for unacceptable student behavior and I use whole class incentives to motivate and reward positive behavior! Furthermore, I use Class Dojo to monitor and document student behavior and share it with you so keep your eye out for more information on that soon!
I invite you to visit my website: http://johnsonla1.wixsite.com/mslaurelannjohnson to learn more about me, my classroom, and my teaching philosophy! Until then here is a little bit about me…
I was born and raised in San Diego, California and my childhood fostered my love of nature, music, learning, culture and art! I have lived in Charleston for five years now and graduated from College of Charleston in 2016! I come from a very large, diverse, blended family which includes my three step siblings and younger brother! When I am not teaching, I enjoy cooking (and eating), creating all kinds of art, and listening to lots of music! I am an especially huge fan of Lauryn Hill, The Shins, and Earth, Wind, and Fire! Lastly, I am overjoyed to begin teaching in a classroom of my own!
I believe you are the most knowledgeable about your student and that you created the first environment in which your child learned, which is why I believe I have a lot to learn from you. I find that students are most successful when parents and teachers work together and communicate. I believe we are far more capable of meeting your students’ needs together than we are apart, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work alongside you to help your student succeed!
My classroom rules, consequences, and schedule are stated above and I ask that you look them over and then share them with your student before the first day of school! I look forward to meeting you, your student, and can’t wait to help your student learn and grow this year! If you have any questions, comments, or just want to get in touch with me please e-mail me at johnsonla1@g.cofc.edu ! I love teaching, learning about my students, and working along side their loved ones! Expect a welcome call sometime soon with more information on the amazing school year ahead of us!
Thank You Sincerely,
Ms. Johnson
