About Me

My name is Laurel Johnson and I am an early an Early Childhood Educator! I was born and raised in San Diego, California where I learned to love the sunshine, art, music, culture, and eating tacos! I've lived in Charleston, SC for 5 years now and I graduate from College of Charleston in 2017! I come from a very large and blended family that includes three step siblings and a younger brother!
When I am not teaching I enjoy baking, creating all kinds of art, traveling, learning, and listening to lots of music! Some of my favorite things are mixed CD's, painting, audiobooks, coffee, Lauryn Hill, pumpkin flavored anything, road trips, and writing letters!
I aspire to be a third-grade teacher and I am full of passion, curiosity, and determination. Furthermore, I am a very lively teacher! I always come prepared with a "can do" attitude and I care deeply about the students I have the privilege to teach. I highly value education, character, and effort above all else.
I inspire to create more equity in education and aspire to restore more justice to the American education system. I highly believe in my student's ability to empathize and the importance of teaching my students that they have the ability to fight for justice. I intend to make a positive difference in the lives of all my students, just like they make in mine each and every day. Similarly, I desire to never, never, ever, stop learning and teach to inspire my students to do the same.
My goal is to help every one of my unique students to
understand that they have something to offer. By the time they leave my classroom my students will be critical thinkers that find joy in solving problems and asking questions. My students will understand it's alright to make a mistake. They will understand mistakes are the only way to reach the best solution. Furthermore, they will leave my classroom believing
they are more capable of reaching their goals.
I believe every child has something to offer the world and it is my job to help each of my students to find that gift, foster it, and eventually feel prepared to use it. I also believe it is my job to reiterate success can be measured in a multitude of ways!
I truly believe that it is our differences that make the world diversely beautiful. Furthermore, I believe we have the most to learn from those that are different than ourselves.
So heres to learning, uniqueness, and hard work! Teamwork is the only way we can get this done, so care to join me? I hope so and I can't wait to begin!
